A leafy, tall oat bred for fodder rather than grain. Gives two cuts of soft green fodder through the rabi season and tolerates late sowing.
A CCS HAU fodder oat with broad leaves and good regrowth after cutting. It holds its protein well into the second cut.
A GBPUAT multi-cut fodder oat for the northern plains. Quick regrowth after each cut and good tolerance of leaf blight.

Hedge lucerne: a perennial shrubby legume that is cut like lucerne but tolerates heavier soils and drier spells. Rich in protein.
Leucaena grown as a fodder tree. Its protein-rich leaf can be lopped for years, and the wood is useful too. Keep it under 30% of the ration.
A PAU rice bean for kharif fodder. A leafy, twining legume that is excellent mixed with maize or teosinte to raise the protein of the cut.
A hardy perennial forage legume for dry, poor soils. It adds protein to a grass pasture and fixes its own nitrogen. Scarify the seed before sowing.
